I can still remember the IRC ping! The idea of just wandering around and using a computer seems so foreign. Internet cafes....Man, I thought I was cool when I would log in to my email account. Then the movie hackers came out, and that was it. I was convinced I could be one. I was not able. Not even the slightest!

I don't remember the IRC ping, sadly. I wonder if there's a way to find it online? And yes, those early internet days were such a vibe. Love your Hacker dream!

I enjoyed the story and walk down memory lane, April. However, I got my first uni email address the same month Netscape came out.

I seem to remember Netscape coming out after I got back from London. The end of our innocence 😂 I guess you were able to avoid those dark basement-level computer labs with ancient terminals!

How time have changed…

Haha yes, very much. It helps me to connect back to that time once in a while, to remember when things were more simple and free in certain ways.

How brave! I didn’t have email until 1995, or so. I can still hear the nostalgic sound of dial up when I think about it.

That dial up tone is forever embedded in our collective memory. And yes, maybe a different kind of bravery for the times! 😂
