I'm glad it spoke to you, Sue. It took me a long time to feel safe enough to share my voice. And I'm still in the process of developing it. If you were asking what inspired this particular piece...a lot of different things converging together. Cultural - ancestry has played a big role in my life through family reverence, and I often think about life through the lens of lineage. Recently, a family member sent me a journal written by his late mother and it included lots of new info about my grandparents and what they endured. And, a comment someone wrote in response to another poem I wrote called The Ancestral Healer - the way she related to the piece inspired me to write from another angle. If you meant what motivated me to find my voice, that's a really long story. 😂 I'm actually working on a piece about it right now! 💜 🙏🏼
Oh man, I can imagine 🤣😂. Imagine?! 🤔 I am going through self discovery myself, took me a while to get out of the anger of what I was born into and how far I've came. I applaud you, seems like we can relate in a lot by just reading your message. I dropped a piece a lil while ago of what I was feeling today. Nothing planned, just a raw thought I wanted to express of what I was feeling.
This is so thoughtful. 'I am part of a story still unfolding' is exciting and enriched by knowing 'the line I come from and the truth I live now'.
It is totally exciting that our stories are still unfolding! And no matter what the past held, we get to choose how to live our own 💜
